Results of the August 2013 Membership Survey

We had 90 responses out of 458 members, which is almost 20%. However, only 62 (69%) completed the entire questionnaire. At weekly intervals, we sent three reminder letters to those that did not respond.

Listed here are some details of the Survey:

28 (35%) out of 81 said that they attended a section Dinner Meeting last year. 35% of 458 members surveyed is 160. We certainly never had such numbers at our meeting. We must conclude that these 28 respondents are more active in the Section than the non-respondents.

When asked why they did not attend, a number responded that they were not aware of the meetings. “I did not get any invitation” was a common response.

The other major reason was that the meeting was too far from home or work. When asked for an alternate location most answered New York City. One said, “Every time I was interested it was in NJ”. We need to over-communicate to our members that they can reach NJ by public transportation.

When asked for recommendation for restaurants, members listed Marriott on Times Square, Biricchino, local [New York] hotels, Murano, Spanish Tavern, PioPio (they have number of locations in Manhattan and serve Peruvian food), and Appetito.

When to hold Courses? 30 (54%) of the respondents opted for Monday through Thursday after 6pm. Another 21 (38%) opted for the weekend. Another 11(20%) wanted weekday morning sessions.

The volunteers for Plant Tour are Anheuser-Bush, NYC Municipal Hospital, and NJ Transit.

A large number of respondents volunteered for committees. A number of these volunteered for more than one committee. This is terrific news for our Section!

There were a number of kudos at the end. The issue of notification occurred again. One respondent said, “Need more frequent courses related to ASQ certifications.
