ASQ NJIT Fall Ott Conference – October 9th, 2017

October 9, 2017, ASQ NJIT Fall Ott Conference on Visual Factory Management, Collaborative Robotics, Lean six-sigma Methods, Tools and Case Studies, organized by the NJIT ASQ Student Leadership Team: Michelle Vollo, President, Jovana Stijovic and Jelena Stijovic, Vice Presidents, Avery Bechtel, Program Chair, Philip Lelikov, Secretary, Terry Asante, Educational Chair, and Paul G Ranky, Founding Academic Advisor.

Several presenters will discuss Visual Factory Management, Collaborative Robotics, Lean six-sigma Methods, Tools and Case Studies in academia, as well as in industry. The core focus is Zero Defect Devices, Production, Service and Systems, including Root Cause Analysis (RCA). Root Cause Analysis is an essential first step when starting a six-sigma study for process improvement by controlling variations. RCA is generally applicable in situations where a defect occurs and there is a possibility that it might be beneficial to identify and address the real cause so that the situation does not occur again.

Every session will follow an interactive workshop style.

Time is running outIt’s not to late to register for the for the ASQ NJIT Spring Ott Conference on Lean six-sigma Methods, Tools and Case Studies, organized by the NJIT ASQ Student Leadership Team join us on March 21, 2017

Several presenters will discuss Lean six-sigma Methods, Tools and Case Studies in academia, as well as in industry. Seminar-1: The Relationship Between Visual Factory Management and Ergonomics by Michelle Vollo
Everyday, people interact with machines and/or processes in almost all situations or environments. This interaction between human and technology can be studied as a single system where each component works together to complete a specific goal. This presentation focuses on how humans play a role in this system and how visual aids can be used in the system to achieve usability, efficiency, safety and error-free performance.

Seminar-2: Quality Engineering Management Methods of the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT): An Interactive Session with Practical Examples by Paul G Ranky
The Industrial Internet of Things means computer controlled, networked sensors, devices, machines, cells, lines and larger systems and able humans working together. More accurately, the convergence of machines and intelligent data generated by humans as well as machines in an integrated system is known as the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT), or in other words, the Internet of Everything (IoE).

Seminar-3: Zero Defect by Quality Design: An Interactive Session with Practical Examples by Paul G Ranky and Michelle Vollo
This interactive seminar is about how to achieve zero defect products, processes and systems by quality design. The seminar uses a novel kit and software, designed by Dr Ranky. Format: Interactive Workshop

ASQ NJIT Student Section Lean Six-sigma (LSS) Presentations on April 15, 2015

Please join us for our monthly section meeting with the ASQ NJIT Student Section featuring presentations on Lean Six-Sigma (LSS) NJIT.

Presentation Topics:

1. Quality Project Management Challenges and Solutions (by Olga Kalaba)

This presentation focuses on how the different participants in the construction industry are related to each other, and what the basic documents are everyone is using. It will specifically explain design problems and solutions: contract drawings and specification discrepancies, addendum’s & RFI’s, discontinued products/outdated specifications, installers and manufacturers’ feedbacks. Execution problems and solutions: how to keep track of approved and disapproved submittals, the submittal log on a shared drive with hyperlinks (electronic submittals vs. paper submittals) and examples, approved submittals on the job site, how to keep track of approved systems; submittal library and an example. Closeout problems and solutions: attic stock in execution phase instead in closeout phase, manufacturers’ warranties duration, and closeout log examples.

2. Lean Six-sigma Quality Case Studies (by Meghana Thammareddy)

Total Quality is a description of the culture, attitude and organization of a company that strives to provide customers with products and services that satisfy their needs. Meghana will be discussing the Component Oriented Requirements Analysis (CORA) method and tool. She will show how the tool makes it easier to follow the steps needed to make or improve a product by showing what customers want while highlighing the proposed engineering solutions and performance compared to other competitors. She will also show how the tool also gives you the complete importance rating for each engineering solution, thereby simplifying a company’s assessment as to which engineering solutions to challenge first, second, third, and so on.

3. Visual Factory Management Case Studies (by Michelle Vollo)

In an effort to maximize productivity, and reduce waste, Visual Factory Management Case Studies offers valuable ideas and information on incorporating visual aids into any business. With an emphasis on organization in the workplace, the presentation covers reducing waste and reworking processes through visual factory signs, color coding, workstation layouts, and layered process diagrams.

4. Lean Six-sigma Zero Defect Simulation with a Tolerance Analysis Focus (by Paul G. Ranky)

This interactive R&D presentation and workshop focuses on the basic principles of LSS tolerance analysis with the aim of achieving zero defect. Participants face a real-world challenge in terms of establishing and measuring KPIs (Key Process Indicators) of physical devices, entering data into a statistical software tool and then analyzing and discussing the results.
